Well the rain was unable to keep me from brewing. I was able to take advantage of a 2 hour break and get my Raspberry Cream Ale in the fermenter. Overall it was a good experience. Beersmith had my estimated OG at 1.046 and I was 1.041. With that my efficiency was kinda shit, only 69%. I think that may correct itself when I get my routine a little more fine tuned.
The Peat Porter, which will be named Penalty Porter is still in the secondary in the freezerator. I should be getting some extra cornies in the mail in the next week so I can transfer it over and start to carb it. We'll see how it goes.
But a new toy! In the next couple days I will be purchasing beersmith to help me with all my future AG calculations.
Well, over the last couple days, I have nearly completed a couple projects. Because SWMBO had the camera with her I was not able to photodocument everything. All I have to offer is the finished product.
First, I have begun the process to go All Grain. Behold! My new MLT.

Right now I am testing it. I poured water in it that was 185 degrees. Thirty minutes later it was 169. Thirty minutes after that it was 159. Now, it is thirty minutes later it is holding steady at 158 degrees. It should work nicely.
Also, I have just about finished my CFC. I had 50' of copper tubing given to me and used a old garden hose. Only thing I will pay for on this are the connections. The CFC is 25' long and with the extra copper I made an immersion chiller as well. Here are the pictures of both of these.
Well, I had planned on brewing today, but forces did not seem to allow it. Going to spend the day drinking a few and perhaps constructing my CFC and Collar. We'll see how it goes!
Yesterday I racked the Peat Smoked Porter to secondary. I can't say I am happy with the gravity readings now, but I think they will go down a little more.
Brew Date 23 April 2005
Starting Gravity - 1058
Racking Date 1 May 2005
Racking Gravity - 1020
I did drink the test sample, and I was happy to note a nice coffee flavour. I think this will turn out to be an excellent brew. Sucks that I have to wait 2 months for it to really mature.
